The Fuente de los Banos at Montanejos feeds the Mijares with mineral water that stays around 25 degrees whatever the season, filling a run of clear turquoise pools beneath the climbing cliffs. It is a free, natural riverside soak that has drawn bathers since Moorish times.

Open-air river pools you can swim and soak in all year, busy and sociable in summer, wonderfully quiet and steaming in winter. No facilities beyond the riverbank, so come prepared.
Base in Montanejos village and walk down to the Fuente de los Banos pools. Go early or off-season to avoid the summer crowds; bring water shoes for the pebbles.
