Ölüdeniz is one of the world's premier tandem paragliding sites, and the reason is the drop: you launch from Babadağ, a mountain rising 1,960 metres straight off the Turquoise Coast, and fly down nearly two vertical kilometres to land on the beach beside the famous Blue Lagoon.
That vertical scale gives one of the longest, most scenic tandem flights anywhere — twenty to forty minutes in the air, circling above pine-covered ridges with the impossibly blue lagoon and the Mediterranean spread out below.
No experience is needed: you're harnessed to a professional pilot who handles everything while you take a few running steps off the mountain and then simply enjoy the view.
Reliable coastal thermals and a purpose-built launch make it as accessible as this kind of flight gets, and the setting — that lagoon, that coastline, from the air — is genuinely unforgettable.
In season: Apr–Nov
A tandem flight with a professional pilot from a launch high on Babadağ, some 1,960 metres above the coast, descending nearly two vertical kilometres to land on the beach. You need no experience or fitness beyond being able to run a few steps at take-off; the pilot does everything.
The flight lasts roughly twenty to forty minutes depending on conditions, circling above forested ridges with the Blue Lagoon and the Mediterranean below. It can be smooth or, on a thermic afternoon, a little lively — bracing rather than alarming.
A jeep ride up the mountain to launch is part of the day. Flights depend on weather and can be cancelled for wind.
Book a tandem flight with one of Ölüdeniz's many operators — no experience needed, and everything from the harness to the jeep ride up Babadağ is included. The season runs roughly April to November, with summer busiest; morning air is usually calmest if you'd prefer a gentle flight.
Base in Ölüdeniz or nearby Fethiye. Turn up in comfortable clothes and trainers you can run a few steps in, plus sunglasses; the pilot straps you in and briefs the short take-off run.
Flights are weather-dependent, so allow a little flexibility, and choose a reputable operator with good equipment and experienced pilots. Children from around twelve can usually fly.
