Picos de Europa·Spain

Why go

The Picu Urriellu (Naranjo de Bulnes) is the birthplace of Spanish alpine climbing: a pale limestone tower rising alone from a cirque, with the historic Rabada-Navarro on its west face and a serious 'normal' route on the south.

What to expect

Real alpine rock - a hut approach, fast weather, and long, exposed pitches on excellent limestone. Even the easiest lines are a committing mountain day.

How to start

Walk in to the Urriellu refuge from Poncebos or the Fuente De cable car and book a bed ahead. Go with alpine-climbing experience or a Picos guide.
