Lake Hańcza is the deepest lake in Poland, a steep glacial trench in the Suwałki hills with clear, cold water and boulder-strewn shores. It draws technical divers for its deep walls and ice divers in winter, when visibility is at its best.
In season: Jan–Feb, Jun–Sep · Peak: Jul–Aug
Cold freshwater diving with steep drop-offs, good visibility and serious depth; the deep wall and ice diving are for qualified, experienced divers only. The shore shallows at Bachanowo suit snorkelling.

Under the ice in February, visibility at its best
Dive from Bachanowo on the shore of Lake Hańcza with a local dive centre. Start in the shallows, and go deeper or under the ice only with the right certification and a local guide.
