Vis was closed to foreigners until 1989, which kept its coast unspoilt, and its outer islands have some of the clearest water in the Adriatic. The Blue Cave on nearby Biševo glows with sunlight reflected through an underwater opening.
In season: Jun–Sep · Peak: Jul–Aug
Warm summer water, rocky coves and walls, and busy boat trips to the Blue Cave in the middle of the day. Swimming is not allowed in the cave itself.
Take the ferry from Split and base in Vis or Komiža. Freedive the coves and outer islands, and visit the Blue Cave early in the morning.
