Why go

In a cold winter the Masurian lakes freeze solid and become some of the best ice-sailing water in Europe, with Lake Niegocin at Giżycko as the home of the Polish iceboat fleet and national regattas. Iceboats reach startling speeds across the open ice, and Śniardwy, the biggest lake in Poland, becomes a vast frozen plate.

What to expect

Short, cold, fast sessions on smooth ice in DN-class and larger iceboats, entirely dependent on a proper freeze. Some winters the season lasts for weeks, some winters it never comes, and ice safety is serious.
