Why go

The Tetons rise abruptly above Jackson Hole with steep couloirs that make them the birthplace of American ski mountaineering. Skiing the Grand Teton from its summit is a rite of passage, the Skillet Glacier on Mount Moran is a classic long descent, and Teton Pass offers quick touring from the road.

What to expect

Steep, exposed descents where a fall is not an option, with climbing and rappels on the biggest lines. Spring corn snow and stable conditions are the key, and they need patience.

    moderate

  3. Mount Moran, Skillet Glacier

    hard

Long committing descent on the northern peak

How to start

Base in Jackson and follow the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center forecast. Tour Teton Pass to learn the snowpack, ski the Skillet Glacier once you are confident on steep snow, and climb the Grand with a guide who knows its couloirs.
