The Karkonosze ridge is a high, wind-scoured plateau with post-glacial cirques dropping away on the Polish side and a border running down the middle that you cross a dozen times a day. Śnieżka's summit building looks like a landed UFO and the wind up there is genuinely violent.
The huts are the reason to do it as a traverse rather than a day walk. Samotnia sits by a tarn in a cirque, Strzecha Akademicka has been feeding walkers for a century, and you can drink in all of them.

The plateau has no shelter, the weather turns without warning, and the cirques carry avalanche closures in winter — so it is more serious than its modest 1,603-metre high point suggests.

There is a park fee on both the Polish and Czech sides, and you will cross between them repeatedly, so carry ID. Book the huts — Samotnia, Strzecha Akademicka, Dom Śląski — ahead in summer and at weekends; they are small and popular with Czech walkers too.
The traverse takes about three days and suits intermediate-to-advanced hill walkers. It is walkable much of the year, but treat winter as a serious proposition with avalanche closures in the cirques and violent summit wind. Base from Karpacz or Szklarska Poręba, about 130 km from Wrocław.
