The Międzyrzecz Fortified Region is one of the largest military underground systems in the world, a network of galleries, narrow-gauge railways and bunkers built by Germany in the 1930s to guard its eastern border. Today guided routes lead through the damp, echoing tunnels and the armoured works above.
In season: Year-round · Peak: Apr–Oct
Guided walks underground in cold, wet tunnels at a steady 10 degrees, from short tours to long crossings of the main gallery. Part of the system is a protected bat reserve and closes to visitors in winter.

Book a guided route at Pniewo or Boryszyn, where the main entrances are. Bring warm clothes and sturdy shoes, and check which routes are open around the bat season.
