Lake Łuknajno is a shallow, reed-fringed lake beside Śniardwy, protected as a UNESCO biosphere reserve for its huge gatherings of mute swans. Observation towers look out over the water, where swans, grebes, ducks and marsh harriers crowd the reed beds from spring to late summer.
In season: Apr–Sep · Peak: Apr–Jun
Easy birding from towers and a lake-shore path, with the biggest swan numbers in spring and summer. Bring binoculars, as the birds keep their distance from the shore.

Reed beds and the walk round from Mikołajki
Base in Mikołajki and walk or cycle out to the Łuknajno towers. Go early in the morning, and follow the lake-shore circuit through the reed beds.
