In summer the Tatras are busy. Under snow they empty out and turn into a genuine winter range: couloirs, iced-up chains, and cornices on the ridges. Zawrat, Świnica and a winter Rysy are the classic objectives, and each is a proper day out with axe and crampons rather than a walk with extra clothing.
TOPR publish an avalanche bulletin every day and it is not decorative. Poland's alpine club learned here before going to the Himalaya, and the reason Polish winter Himalayan climbing became a thing is that this is what they trained on.
